Why Choose Honda Marine Outboard Motors
Boatspares.ie are Ireland’s largest stockist of Honda Marine Outboard Motors, and there’s a very good reason for that. Honda Marine engines are among the best in the world. Honda have been producing 4-Stroke engines for over 50 years and now lead the industry in 4-stroke engine technology.
When Honda first introduced their outboard motors in the early 1960’s, the market was dominated by 2-stroke engines which, although quite simple & lightweight, can produce relatively high power from low displacements, Honda’s 4-stroke engines have certain key benefits over these other styles of engines, which is why we stock so many of them. In this blog, we’ll take a deeper look into the main benefits of Honda’s 4-Stroke Outboard Motors.
CHEAPER TO RUN
Honda’s four-stroke engines are over 50% more fuel-efficient than typical two-stroke motors which other manufacturers produce. This is something Honda have worked extremely hard on over the past half-century, in line with their founder, Soichiro Honda’s desire to “not contaminate the water we ride on”.
Honda’s long-term goal with 4-stroke engines was to design an engine with acceleration similar to that of a typical 2-stroke, while maintaining high fuel efficiency & environmental performance. After decades of improving the technology piece by piece, they eventually came up with is known as BLAST, in 2006. This is Honda’s unique air to fuel ratio, and ignition timing technology.
What all of this means is that modern Honda Outboard Motors use far less fuel than the average engine, making them cheaper to run.
LONG LASTING
It’s no secret that Honda has a reputation in all aspects for the quality and longevity of their products. Their cars in particular have long been associated with incredible long lives. This is no different for their boat engines. There are two primary technologies within Honda’s engines which help them last much longer than competitor engines:
- Where typical 2-stroke engines rely mainly on gas or air to move thin oil films to critical components, Honda’s 4-stroke engines keep all internal components bathed in oil for constant lubrication, reducing wear on the engine parts. This design also helps keep engine parts from overheating, which again reduces wear.
- Typically, the ports in a 2-stroke engine’s cylinders and pistons can increase the wear on the pistons and rings. However, since there is neither an intake nor an exhaust post in a 4-stroke engine’s cylinders or pistons, they can continue operating at higher outputs & tolerances for far longer.
MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
Quite in line with their technology which makes their engines more fuel efficient, Honda’s Outboard Motors have ultra-low emmissions, making them extremely environmentally friendly.
Honda’s 4-stroke motors are up to 90% cleaner than a traditional 2-stroke engine in their everyday usage, and, more importantly, 4-stroke motors do not release oil directly into the water.
Every Honda outboard motor has also exceeded the highest CARB 3-star rating in the USA, to meet the extremely rigorous California Air Resource Board’s standards.
BETTER TO OPERATE
This point is really the most important and beneficial to you the user of a Honda outboard motor. Honda’s 4-strokes are up to 50% quieter than traditional 2-strokes. They also produce far less smoke, smell and, as mentioned before, do not dump oil in the water.
4-stroke engines are also far smoother than traditionally loud & harsh 2-strokes, meaning you can glide over the water in far more comfort than with another engine. The last thing you want for your day on the water is to be deafened by an overpowering engine noise.
